Power Yoga
A Yoga-Based Wellness Studio

Yoga

All of our team members also lead classes at other studios around the area.  Some of our teachers are moms and some hold full and part time jobs.  We do our best to bring the most to our community through the diversity of teachers.  Seeing that our team members do have other responsibilities both professional and personal the schedule may change with little or no advanced notice.  If you have any questions about your favorite teacher or healer at Inner Strength please feel free to email us.  info@innerstrengthyoga.com

Inner Strength believes we all need a sacred space where we can learn to return to ourselves and align our internal compass.  Life experiences can leave us facing the wrong direction with all of its challenges and false paths.  We at Inner Strength view life as an evolutionary process of soul development and offer a variety of Eastern and Western approaches to help build and shape this spiritual character.

On a physical level we believe that navigating this evolutionary process in a body that is over stimulated, weak, misaligned, stiff, overweight or just plain stressed will bring unnecessary pain and suffering. Inner Strength taps into the ancient wisdom of Yoga, conventional insights of personal training and the healing properties of acupuncture, Shiatsu and massage to bring balance to the body.

Our team of practitioners, teachers and trainers are highly skilled and exceptionally well trained in their given area as well as in anatomy, physiology, first aid, and Yoga asana/philosophy.  Inner Strength believes that being in the presence of the teacher and being led through a class is the best way to decide if it is right for you.  We will refund your money for the class if for any reason you do not connect with the teacher.

Our team is committed to continual education and attend various workshops and retreats throughout the year to bring our community the latest in techniques, insights, and inspirations.

We lead by example and teach from a place of compassion and understanding.  Our staff is committed to their journey and are fully capable of leading others.

Inner Strength offers support and skills to bring balance, understanding and growth to your whole being.

Your candid opinions, positive or constructive, are appreciated and give us an opportunity to maintain a high standard for our community.  Email Roman Szpond directly.  roman@innerstrengthyoga.com.

The Inner Strength 2009 staff:

Roman Szpond

Roman Szpond was a competitive athlete in high school and at an early age learned the importance of teamwork, hard work and commitment. Right out of high school Roman enlisted in the U.S.M.C. After serving Roman returned to the Boston area and began Inner Strength Inc. a personal training and personal development/coaching business.

While touring the country of India in 1995 with one of his long time clients, Roman experienced his first profound spiritual awakening. This experience was so powerful and inspiring upon return to the United States Roman sought out teachers and began his formal practice of Yoga.

Roman discovered how the practice of Yoga and meditation quickly accelerated the success he and his clients were seeking. And for over a decade Roman has been sourcing the wisdom inherent in the teachings and practice of Yoga to help him and others on the path of excellence and living well. Roman, (500 RYT) has been a student of Yoga since 1995. With a background in exercise physiology, anatomy and post rehab, Romans experience with the physical body and kinesiology made the practice of Yoga asana accessible. Roman’s teaching is influenced and informed by the practices of Tantra, Hatha, Iyengar, Anusara, Ashtanga, and many forms of meditation practices.

Roman continues to study under Yoga greats like Todd Norian of John Friend's Anusara Yoga and Iyengar teacher Francois Raoult, (www.openskyyoga.com) Roman is currently studying with Rod Stryker of Para Yoga. (www.parayoga.com)

Roman’s approach is to distill the best from these lineages/traditions to demystify and allow the wisdom and teachings to be accessible to the modern human to help reduce stress, awaken their Inner Strength and realize their purpose and meaning in this world. Roman's deep love and passion for the human experience continues to inspire him to study extensively in the areas of physical fitness/personal training, Yoga Asana, meditation, Yoga theory/philosophy, physiology, anatomy and psychology.

Roman's classes are informed by ghana (self knowledge) infused with bhakti (devotion to the community) and intend to awaken the Inner Strength or Shakti within. (All interpretations of the word 'Shakti' hold common one parameter, Power.) In his free time Roman loves practicing, reading, writing and traveling.

A former Army Drill Sergeant, Jules has always found fulfillment in helping people realize their individual strength and potential. While living in Chicago in 2003, she discovered Bikram yoga and quickly came to appreciate the balance, grounding and muscular endurance which developed from regular practice. After earning a 750 hour certification in clinical massage therapy, Jules decided to combine her knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology with her love of yoga. In 2006 she earned a 200 hour certification in anusara yoga and an AOS degree in Holistic Healthcare from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe, AZ. In addition to the theory and practice of yoga, her focuses of study were nutrition, aromatherapy and western herbalism. Sometimes a teacher, always a student, Jules continues to broaden her knowledge of holistic therapies through developmental workshops, classes and literature.

Dan Rudolph

I am grateful for all of my yoga teachers through the years: Coeli Marsh, Claire Este-Macdonald, Jane Cargill, Brandon Compangone, Elizabeth Huntsman, and many others who have shared with me this sacred art of balance. For the past year and a half, I have studied under the guidance of Coeli Marsh in her Teachers Study Project, where I have been able to practice the craft of teaching.

As a former professional and still competitive athlete, I am fascinated by yoga's ability to place the mind in the here and now; to allow the practitioner to be simple, to do only what's needed and nothing more. I continue to study yoga's amazing effect on sports when I play soccer.

I know of no other healing modality as effective and holistic as heated power vinyasa yoga, and I am thrilled to be a part of the community here at Inner Strength!

Lakota Sandoe

Lakota was introduced to Yoga in 1993 & immediately recognized its potential for radical transcendence.  For the next ten years, practice supplemented & soothed a busy life as a student, a single mom, an activist & an artist.  Around 2003, lakota realized yoga gave not only the gifts of transcendence, but also the patient transformation of deep acceptance & began intensively training under Patty Townsend.  Since then she has embraced a life of yogic investigations & committed playfulness, & Yoga has become her revolutionary activity of choice.  Whether teaching prenatal, vinyasa or restorative, it is her greatest joy to share what she's learned & watch people reconnect to their physical & mental vitality in class.Embodyoga™ classes combine the classical teachings of Iyengar, Ashtanga & Viniyoga with the life's work of  Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen,  founder of the School of Body-Mind Centering.    Body-Mind Centering infuses the traditional practice of Yoga with a vast body of pioneering research & inquiry into the body-mind connection in various movement modalities & therapies.  With rich knowledge of anatomy, yogic physiology & sequencing, Embodyoga™ facilitates a practice that balances effort & enjoyment, is deeply integrated & prevents injury.   lakota's teaching takes into account each of the Eight Limbs of Yoga & allows for a resonant experience of embodied inquiry, a chance for physical & mental healing, as well as significant informed progression in Asana, at each student's appropriate level. In Embodyoga™ prenatal classes the principles of movement integration & body-mind alignment couldn't be more valuable.  Students (& partners) will practice centering the mind around the breathwork & integrating this with movements in & out of both challenging & restorative Asana.  Students will tone & stretch the major muscle groups & body systems in a balanced & safe way, mentally & physically preparing for more ease & calm in the birth process.  lakota has served as labor support in 6 (& counting) home & hospital births.  She has an 11 year old yogini at home.

Tabatha's style of teaching stillness is quite profound.  Her techniques include non-verbal communication and a lot of demonstration.  Her favorite pose is yet to be named on the Yoga journal web site but we have given it the Sanskrit name of SUPTA PARIVRITTI SAVASANA.

I just wanted to write you a letter to say Thank you! I brought my boyfriend Dave to the Fundamentals class on Wed night that you taught and he really enjoyed it. I've been practicing on and off for 7 years. I was often envious when I would see couples together in class and think, if only Dave would come. The funny thing is, I never asked him ;) After being in your Monday Slow Flow class and seeing those 3 irish/scotishmen enjoying themselves, I knew that Dave could do it. He has been extremely stressed lately at his job and so I asked him to come to the fundamental class and he said "YES". He loved it. He loved the atmosphere, the people, how it made him feel like a new person afterwards. He was extremely comfortable (this from the most competitive guy I know) He had a wonderful day at work the next day and can't stop talking to everyone about yoga. So we've decided to do the fundamentals class together every wed. He's so excited - it’s a great thing to watch! And now we have a new journey ahead of us together!
So again, thank you for your wonderful studio!
See you soon!

I wanted to let you know that I just love your classes. You keep raising the bar and every class is different, challenging in its own way and totally makes you focus on what you are doing at the moment, being present as you say. I appreciate all that you put in to the studio, your classes and yourself.
